Supporting children with cancer/life-limiting conditions, their families & bereaved parents
A bit of background to put the importance of the support we offer into context…
There are around 1,900 children diagnosed with cancer in the UK every year, that's around 5 every day.
Around 240 children die as a result of cancer in the UK every year, which is more than 4 every week (2015-2017).
It is estimated that approximately 1 child per 500 in Great Britain will be diagnosed with cancer by age 14.
Those numbers only include child deaths for cancer cases, when we look at the child mortality rates in England and Wales from any cause, there were between 6-7 infant (aged under 1 year) deaths EVERY SINGLE DAY in 2019 (2,390 in total). And Between the ages of 1-15, there were 907 child deaths (on average 2-3 every day).
In total that’s 3,297 infant or child deaths a year (an average of 9 every single day) in England and Wales alone.
These incredibly distressing statistics (you can read more here and here) highlight just how many families need the support of charities like ours.
